    Pc problem

need help abt the following symptoms of my comp

    when i
    - press power-on switch on front of PC case
    - system switches on ( fans run), led on the motherboard is on, led on keyboard is on, optical mouse on.
but monitor isnt getting any power nor are the optiacal drives.

    - switch off PC by holding down front power switch - motherboard light goes off

    - switch back on - motherboard light comes on

    - leave it on.
    - after 10-30 min, the pc springs to life without any one even touching it.

experiencing it fr over a week now.

the pc also shuts down citing thermal overheat...
but the fans( 2) are working fine and the case is also open.

would really appreciate somebody helping me find the solution to the problem.

Did you build the PC yourself? If so, did you remember to apply thermal paste/grease?

Double check that all your components are seated correctly. However, it sounds like a failing mobo to me.

Working fans might just mean they're shoving air against densely impacted dust bunnies wedged in the heat sink(s) fins ;->

If the inside of the thing looks like the Sahara desert get all that crud blown out and cleaned off. A lot of dust is semi-conductive and can cause all sorts of problems.

Heh, the old 386 IBM PS/2 Model 80 had problems like this. Dust tended to heavily collect up near the FDD controller on the mobo and the things would stop working. Blow the dust off, and they worked again.

Sounds like a failed motherboard and PSU.

First, ensure the switch isn't busted. Some are pure crap these days (e-Machine for example)

Find the set of leads from the switch on the front panel that run down to the mobo. Pull that connector off and short the pins momentarily with a small screwdriver blade. If that still doesn't do anything, then its not a bum switch.
