Please help am i overclocked ?

1ST TIME HERE ...
a friend borrowed my laptop (a gammer) since i got it back it shuts off whenever it pleases, with no warning, usually when the processor is over 50% usage. when i start it again it gives me the option to start in safe mode so i do and i run virus, spyware, and registry scans ... it is clean and no registry probs. am i over clocked? and if so how do i fix it ?
intel i3 m330 Arrandale, core speed 2128MHz, multiplier : x 16.0 bus speed 133MHz ... i got this info from CPU-Z ... the core seems to run at about approx. 52c well within the op temp per CORE TEMP ...
PLEASE HELP ...

Welcome to DevShed, markdagg.

The CPU is not overclocked. I doubt it is the problem. The three usual suspects are your RAM, power or operating system.

The first question is: Is it still within the warranty period? If so, send it back.

If not, uninstall your drivers and re-install fresh ones from the manufacturer(s) website(s), which may well fix any hardware issues.

If not then run a memory test with a tester of your choice, such as memtest86, and see if you have RAM issues.

If not try re-installing the operating system.

Cool

Thanks Winters;
Iwill try the memtest first as i have a LOT of drivers that would need to be installed/reinstalled, probably well over a hundred, and it seems like a very daunting task to even attempt to locate mfrs websites for everything that i have installed on here ... PHEW ! someone else suggested to try replacing the power supply ... i am currently operating win7 home premium, with 4gig of ddr3 ram. when it shuts off by itself the screen just goes black like with one pin sized dot in the middle as it loses power, and of course my ext speakers make a screwed up feedback kinda dying noise as they lose signal. usually it does it while downloading, or converting a video, or other type file, but tonight it did it a couple times while just writing an e-mail with no other programs even open, although the processor seemed to have jumped from 55 TO OVER 40% RIGHT BEFORE IT DID IT ... I am not at home in the states, so this really has me frustrated and very perplexed
