Quad core how much more performance does it deliver

Pretty simple question, my current understanding is a duel core gives you around 30% more power, so does a quad core give you around 60% more power?

So by my reckoning would a AMD Phenom X4 9500 clocked at 2.2 GHZ trues clock speed be around 3.52 GHZ, you get the idea.

Again if you can claifiy this for me I will be greatful, and you can laugh at the dumb question if you so wish.

It really depends on the application(s) being used.

Compare CPUs here:

You can dynamically add/remove different cpus and compare them over different benchmarks. Add CPUs at the bottom - change benchmarks at the top.

CPU Charts

Be aware of the benchmark values though - sometimes a bigger number is better, sometimes a smaller number is better. Make sure you know what you're looking at.
