thanks in advance?

in brief..(i have no other choice)

1-my pc hangs alot alot alot..every 5 minute...not blue death (its win xp) but it freezs!! even the keyboard dosen't function
2-when i boot the pc stop and give me blank screen where XP logo is supposed to show
3-the problem was solved partialy when i (hmmm...downclocked!?) my cpu from pII 350 to 233 but it keep on hanging on boot and while working on windows.

any ideas?

btw..my cpu fan works.

This may be a general hardware failure unrelated to the CPU, but assuming your processor is the problem, underclocking it will not help in the long run. It sounds like your power supply may not be providing enough power to the CPU, therefore crashing your system periodically during periods of high CPU load. Since your CPU fan is working, I doubt it would be an overheating problem. Be sure to check your voltage settings in the BIOS to make sure they haven't been modified incorrectly.

If you can provide any other information about the hardware in your system, it would be greatly appreciated.
