Whats best cpu for extensive/exhaustive math applications? Intel/AMD?

Hi there,

I'm going to buy a computer tomorrow morning, and just wanted a bit of advice on which cpu to get.
All I know is that there are two (main) companies - Intel and AMD.
I've looked through the web and most say that Intel is currently the best in performance. But I just wanted to ask here to be sure.

I know that the best cpu depends on for what, so I'll tell you.
I program a lot of mathematical programs, usually in c++, that need speed. These programs use the memory quite often in good amounts, but usually the core of the programs is about doing a lot of multiplying large numbers, doing sins and functions, usually a lot of number theory too like trying to factor 200 digit numbers. I'm saying all this to give the idea of what I'm buying a new compute for - for fast performance in applications.

So for this purpose, what would be better, Intel's newest or AMD's newest?

You guys are the experts, so any advice will be much appreceated!
Cheers

I would go with the CPU with more internal cache for better number crunching.

I would say go AMD. They are the best choice for gaming and if you know anything about game programming, they use HUGE amounts of complex math (matricies and the sort).
