    Depends. Temps will be higher under load than at idle. If it gets too hot, it will throttle to slower speed and hurt performance. If that isn't happening, you're generally ok. What temp is your cpu at under load now?

    Intel don't do a Socket 754 P4. they don't even have socket 754. that's AMD .

    it's a 775. which means it'll be a Prescott.

    Prescott Cores can take up to 75*C before they start to throttle down. to keep it safe try to keep temps below 65, 60 preferably, at full load.
