beginners css question

I am new to css, and am wondering if it is css that is used on sites such as the devshed.com main page, and others like msn.com, etc... anywhere where the main page is packed with content. The reason that I am wondering is that I, like I am sure many before me, have come to hate tables due to the complexity to do small tasks. Anyway is css something that I should invest some time in.

Thanks for the help.

Well, take a look at http://www.csszengarden.com/ and be dazzled by the possibilities. It's also a good starting place to find other resources about CSS.

that is some pretty cool stuff! Now from looking at the websites the first thing that I would think is that it more geared for the artistic type, but I am wrong about that right?

Is there any books that anyone would recomend on this topic? Thanks for the help

not at all - it's more just for saving all the font types and sizes of various types of styles you might want to use. Then you can use the one file for every page in a site rather than put the code in each and ever page

The possibilites are limited only by your imagination. There are a few things that css can't do yet, but for the most part small changes in your design can overcome that. For more info check out the resources link on the zen garden. There is a lot of good stuff published online that will give you a taste of what css can do and how it does it. Save you the cost of a book until you know enough to choose the right book.
