Beginners thread (Books for C#, C/C++, PHP, SQL, .NET, Java, CSS, XML, Graphics, etc)

I'm looking for books on: PHP, SQL, C#, C/C++, and Java. I'm also looking for some CG books. Of course, I'm not going to learn these all at once, but it's nice to have a place to look for books when you move on.
I'm sure there are other beginners looking to learn these languages, or others.

So, in this thread..
Post books, tutorials, or anything that will help people learn ANYTHING! That could be: Any programming language, Graphics (Applications or just theory), Drawing/Sketching (Useful for CG), etc.

Maybe a mod could make this a sticky, if enough people respond.

Most of my resources are pretty dry; i'll try to find some more later.

If anyone knows some good Java books and resources, please post these. Other things: Flash, Director, Perl, .NET, Coldfusion, Delphi, OpenGL programming, Animation, Linux (Or FreeBSD, or any Open source OS's-Some people think they're hard to install and operate). Or post anything else you can think of.

Thinking in Java - Bruce Eckel
Beginning JAVA2 - Ivor Horton (Wrox)
Just Java2 - Peter Van Der Linden

Listed in no order.

The Horton book is great for starting from scratch
The Van Der Linden book is fantastic for explaining the hows and whys, making sense of JAVA.

The Eckel book is also excellent.

One suggestion. DO NOT use a heavy duty IDE when learning JAVA. Use the built in tools provided in the Sun JDK. If you must use an IDE like tool take a look at JPadPro
