I'm looking for books on: PHP, SQL, C#, C/C++, and Java. I'm also looking for some CG books. Of course, I'm not going to learn these all at once, but it's nice to have a place to look for books when you move on.
I'm sure there are other beginners looking to learn these languages, or others. So, in this thread.. Post books, tutorials, or anything that will help people learn ANYTHING! That could be: Any programming language, Graphics (Applications or just theory), Drawing/Sketching (Useful for CG), etc. Maybe a mod could make this a sticky, if enough people respond. |

Let me start it
Books And Online sources
PHP Building a Database Driven Site PHP Essentials Professional PHP Programming PHP: Fast and Easy Web Development Beginning PHP4 Programming PHP Developer's Cookbook URL URL URL URL (Classes) URL (Sessions) URL (Of course) C Sytle Languages (C, C++, and C#) URL URL URL Java No clue XML, XHTML, HTML, ASP, and SQL URL Photoshop 'Photoshop In A Nutshell' by Donnie O'Quinn URL URL URL URL Illustrator 'The Illustrator Bible' 3D Studio Max 3ds max 4 for Windows: Visual QuickStart Guide 3D Max 4 Workshop Maya Learning Maya 4 Drawing/Sketching Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain Drawing the Human Head Dynamic Anatomy Drawing Dynamic Hands I'll add in links to the books later, or if a mod/admin wants to edit the post and put Amazon referal links, they can. It helps pay for the bandwith. If not, I'll just do a search and copy the links. If I dont get around to doing it, just copy the name and paste it in the amazon.com search. Most of my resources are pretty dry; i'll try to find some more later. If anyone knows some good Java books and resources, please post these. Other things: Flash, Director, Perl, .NET, Coldfusion, Delphi, OpenGL programming, Animation, Linux (Or FreeBSD, or any Open source OS's-Some people think they're hard to install and operate). Or post anything else you can think of. That's all for now ![]() |

Java Books
Thinking in Java - Bruce Eckel Beginning JAVA2 - Ivor Horton (Wrox) Just Java2 - Peter Van Der Linden Listed in no order. The Horton book is great for starting from scratch The Van Der Linden book is fantastic for explaining the hows and whys, making sense of JAVA. The Eckel book is also excellent. One suggestion. DO NOT use a heavy duty IDE when learning JAVA. Use the built in tools provided in the Sun JDK. If you must use an IDE like tool take a look at JPadPro Enjoy.
