How to define more than one link class in my .css

I have a:link defined in my stylesheet and that works.

Some links I want to look different, primarily different font size, so I've tried to define another, example: slink, A.slink2 using the same info from a:link and change the font-size and then use class= in the <a ....></a>.

I'm new to css use so I'm assuming I can use the class= in a link statement?

I've tried a few variation without luck.

    Am I trying the impossible?

    Thanks in advance for help/suggestions.
