Red face Extending a border horizontally?

Hi! I'm a new member here and I'm looking for some help with my blog. I know the basics of CSS, however I would in no way say I'm experienced and I'm stuck with trying to 'extend' the length of a border horizontally.

    Here is my blog:

    floralfidelity . blogspot.co.uk

I would like the dashed border lines that are above and underneath the date header to extend to either side of the main white background so that its joined to the two vertical borders on either side.

I've tried as many different codes as I can think of and have googled endlessly, however nothing seems to be working!

    Thanks for your help.

Right now the date is a <span>, which is an inline element. That means it only takes up as much space as there is content (basically). To make it extend across the whole line, find .date-header span in your CSS and add display: block. That'll get it most of the way across. To push it farther than that you'd have to futz with other elements on the page.
