how to define css styles for text box input's only

if i do:
Code:
input {
	font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
	font-size: 9px;
	border: 1px solid #666666;
}

all other input's like password, radio and checkboxes are given that style too.. i only want to change type="text" input's

i tried:
Code:
input[type="text"] {
	font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
	font-size: 9px;
	border: 1px solid #666666;
}

but it doesn't work (ie 5.5 win)

That's because Internet Explorer supports almost nothing from CSS 2 and thus also not selectors.

Out of curiosity, do the older, non-Explorer browsers support selectors? Ones like Netscape 6.x, Opera, etc.

Or is support for selectors limited to the most recently released browsers, Netscape7 and Mozilla?
