    [IE6 - Positioning] problem with divs moving around in ie6

    Hi all,

    So i have been trying to get the divs with the content in to sit properly on IE6 they work correctly in firefox and ie 7 and 8.

    Originally the text div and the news bar div were both moved far down the page. I removed the height setting on the text div and it moved it back into (about) the correct place.

    But I cant figure out what is causing the news div to move, any advice would be greatly appreciated
    Code:
    <body>
    <div id="main" style="position:absolute; width:850px; background-image:url(images/4560-background_midext_02.jpg); left:15%; z-index:1;">
    <div id="topborder"><img src="images/4560-bkground_top.jpg" /></div>
    	<?php include('components/Header.php'); ?>
    	<div id="body" style="position:relative; left:10px; top:10px; font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:10px;">
        <?php include('components/logodisplay.php'); ?>
    ******THIS DIV IS THE ONE WHICH IS MOVING******
    	<div id="newsbanner" style="position:relative; left:10px; top:7px; z-index:1; display:block;">

    I have no idea what the problem is here, ive tried fiddling with some of the positioning properties and nothing seems to have any effect.

    So any help is greatly appreciated

    Could you post a link to your website please? You have quite a lot of images and I don't know where to find them. I can't replicate your website to have a look.

    here you go:

    http://www.turkmenistantelecoms.com/sponsorship.php

    that specific page is the only one with the problem.

    Though I believe I may have partially fixed it now I would still like to know what is going on because I have just being playing with the css properties hoping for some kind of effect.

    I can't really see any differences on that page when I compare it in Firefox and IE6. The only difference I can see in Opera is
    Code:
    <img id="slideshow" style="cursor: pointer;" src="logos/1244124834-gr_TurkmenMinistry.jpg"/>
    ...that image seems to sit 'outside' on the right of the block where it's supposed to be sitting in. This might be happening because of the positioning/margin/float set on
    Code:
    <div id="officiallogos" style="position: absolute; z-index: 3; float: right; right: 38px; top: 32.4px;">
    ...this div. And just as a note, position:absolute; ignores any kind of float.

    Good that means i did manage to do something with it.

    I have absolutly no idea WHAT i did..but oh well
    .
    Thanks for pointing that out about absolute. Ill remeber from now on, I just tend to add things and forget to remove them when I am trying to properly position divs and its getting fiddly.

    Bad habit I know.

    On another note, The footer appears to have disapeered now and the background stretches all the way to the bottom of the page.

    Do you have an ideas about that?

    thanks for your time!

    That bug I mentioned in Opera is fixed and sits in the correct place now.

    I would try to fix some of these errors and see if that makes a difference. Some of these can be causing the issue. I went to have a look when I noticed IE whining about errors on the page.

    Ok So I managed to make the footer appear.

    however the page is now stretched really far down.

    it *looks* like ie6 is forcing the div which contains the content below the div which contains the logo viewer.

    I seem to remeber this being an actual bug in ie6 but I cant find the information on this specific one again.

    Does anyone know what could be causing this?

    here is the link to the site again:
