redesigning site in xhtml / CSS

Would it be worth it to redesign this site (http://www.innerspect.net/) using CSS only for the layout, instead of tables? Making a few things look cleaner as well (Fonts / layout positions / etc)? Could someone give me tips for doing this. Thanks. (i.e. use what for the main body, something inside that nested for the left side, right, etc.)?

In my opinion, yes.
The best place to start with learning xhtml/css is W3 School.

have fun!

I already know css / xhtml but I am probably not good enough to completely recreate an existing site, preserving much of its original look.

Could someone do the basic css for this and I could tweak it later? Thanks.

(i.e.

#maincontentarea {
whatever
}

#leftbox
whatever
}

etc... just two or three things that would give it the same layout as that page? thanks so much.
