Problems on Site with FireFox 3, Internet Explorer 6 and 7, Chrome and Safari Okay

Hey guys, I'm in need of some help here.

Okay, so. My site looks the way I want so far on google chrome and safari (mac). And right now I'm at the stage of getting it to display like the two.

If anyone who decides to help doesn't have access to certain browsers, I'll further explain, but I think it's easiest said to see for yourself.

Right now I'm focusing on ie6, ie7, ff3. The markup in some areas is whacky, I know, but I decided to pick up where I left off on this project (which I first began building awhile ago) instead of starting completely over with a good template.

If anyone can offer a hand, it means a lot. Cheers guys.

    Hi there bals28mjk,

The best advice that I can offer is that you correct these coding errors...

...and see if that resolves your problems.

Thanks for the reply coothead, I appreciate you wanting to help me.

I know my pages are invalid, but moreso looking for quick fixes I could apply.

Do you know of any I could use?

FF3 displays fine for me. It seems to be only IE7 and down messing things up. First recommendation is to validate of course and see if that fixes your problem.

    Cheers

{edit} oh ok quick fix..let me see..

    Hi there bals28mjk,
I know my pages are invalid, but more so looking for quick fixes I could apply.
You are obviously unaware of the old adage...
    "More haste, less speed"
If the mark-up is invalid, then you may be forcing the browser to "guess" what your intentions are.
While the standards are pretty specific on what user agents should do in specific mark-up
circumstances, when they have to guess and make assumptions due to invalid mark-up, then there is no
guarantee that any two will make the same guesses/assumptions.

In general if the HTML/CSS is error-free with a valid, fully qualified DOCTYPE declaration as the
first line, so that IE is not in "Quirks Mode", 99.99% of browser differences disappear, at least
    when using reasonably current browsers.

Unfortunately web authors have been spoiled by web browsers that let them get away with invalid
mark-up. If you were to write a computer program with syntax errors, it would most likely not
run/compile at all. Browsers instead just do the best they can.

True, but it's a lot easier said than done. I have scripts that "build the site" and editing one thing, effects another.

If I were to completely tear down the site and start over fresh it could take months to rebuild, while a fix is a matter of days. I didn't want to go it completely alone and was hoping to get some help.

I don't want to cause an argument of why it's important to write valid html, the reality is many sites aren't valid.

I just want to get this done with perhaps with someone from here's help. If they want to offer it.

Wow. I didn't expect an effort like that.

    http://thecheckoutplace.com/computers/test.php

The reason I can't use the coding is because of a slight problem in ie6 and ie7. Can you see what I'm talking about?
