After looking to no avail for code to steal that creates the UI feel of a software app without using a frameset, I developed my own CSS and Javascript mix to do it.

It sizes to the full available browser width on open and resize, is pixel perfect, scrollbars only appear when you need them. It uses an Outlook-style sidebar menu, although we needed to make the menu choices in SQL (accesses the links from a DB) so i didnt make it all client-side switcheroo, i have the code written that will work that way for a site with a static menu.

Works on everything (mac pc IE 5 6 NS 6 7 Moz all) and I'm about 99% sure it will W3C validate.

has anyone seen any examples of this on the web? I'm super reluctant to think i've actually invented something new.
