    weird css problem with borders

I have an issue with the css for a site that I am developing. I have just started with CSS so please bear with me.

    the site is here: http://students.uww.edu/keenpa19/isbm/test_intro.html

and the css is here: http://students.uww.edu/keenpa19/isbm/test_1.css

The issue is that I want to have a 1px border under the menu div. It shows up in IE6/Win but not in Netscape/Gecko. Does anybody have any idea why?

Try changing float:left in .item to display:inline and getting rid of the padding:0.2em.

The two properties seemed to make the div's with the links in them appear over the div with the border and therefore obscured it.

thanks for the tip. i implemented what you said and now the bottom line shows up in both ie and gecko.

on a semi-related note, why is there an extra few pixels of space on the left-hand side of each menu item?

    thanks again
