CSS: a thin border acting strangely in Unix

Using a div, I have done a simple thin border around some text. On NT IE5.0 and Netscape 4.7, it renders perfectly. However, on Solaris/Unix Netscape 4.7, you see the box for a split second, and then it disappears.

Also, side note, a &#149 renders as a bullet in NT and a * on Unix.

Tuxie, I am well aware of the age of Netscape 4.7 as you are when you used it in high school. However, we have consumers visiting our site with Netscape 4.7. We value our customers, therefore, must test our web pages across many browsers and operating systems.

If you are coding for older browsers then you should use Standard HTML and try not to use complicated CSS code.

It should then show correctly in all browsers.

You feel CSS1 is to complicated for poor ol' Netscape 4.7? Maybe I should restate the question: div border thin works great with Win IE5+, Win Netscape 4.7+, but with Unix Netscape 4.7 the border shows for a split second then disappears. Does anyone have any reason why it would show then disappear?

i've heard before that old Nutscrape does not handle CSS on floating DIV's well at all.

    http://css.nu/pointers/bugs-nn.html

try giving it absolute positioning (just for reference) and see if the border shows up.. i think you can successfully give LAYERs a border.
