Accesfile copies itself upon closing down

Hello, I have a little problem with an access file (200 mb). Opening the file is without problem and working with it (adding and viewing, it has many many forms and other objects) goes fine too. But when closing, quit, things slow down and access makes a copie of my file with the name db1.mdb, db2.mdb and so on. I've got a dozen files already. I can open them all but when closing them another copie is made with a following db.number.
After closing Access will not completely shut down and it want's to send error reports to microsoft. It's like Access want's to write someting down, can't do it for some reason and then copies the whole file.
I might have corrupted something with visual basic, but I can't find out what.

When I open a backup copy of the file there is no problem. But I really want to use the current file because I have done a lot of work in this database these days. It's holliday you know...

I hope semebody can help me ot on this.

Solved

Hi
I'm hiding in a corner now, ashamed and reading the manuel. In the Extra menue there is an option that says "Compress on shutting down" or something. I have the Dutch version. Well, that was on. I didn't even know it was there so I think it was on al the time. In the past I hadn't noticed it because compressing took only a few seconds. But somehow compressing the file now takes about two or three minutes. Now I did make a major change in the database these last few days and that is that I replaced part of the OLE fields into Link fields. There are now hundreds of links in the database. Maybe that makes compressing more time consuming.
