device activation error

Using MSSQL and basically there's 4 boxes. 2 on production and 2 set up as DR. In the case that the 2 production servers would go down, the idea is we'd just use the DR boxes, and then when the production is fixed, we'd go back.. pretty standard...

Fyi the SQL server and Web server are both backed up by batch files so they're just copies pretty much.

I think the problem has to do with local permissions on the production server, i'm not sure. The permissions are devided up locally on the production machine. Everytime i try and restore the database from the dr, i get a device activation failure, error code 42000. It says the source path doesn't exist. And i'm sure i have the path correct. Has anyone ever run into problems like this and have any advice (as far as backing up NT local permissions too)? I'm guessing not and this will be a post that dies with no responses, thanks for your time none the least.

It would appear when backing up a database, if you don't specify that the restore will be done on a separate computer, it won't work.
