Display full file designation in Win 2000 Pro

Some of my file designations, or, file names, have grown so lengthy that the full name won't display when either the directory tree or the file folder list display is opened. Is there a configuration option on OS WIN 2000 Pro that allows the user to increase the number of characters displayed, similar to, say, the 'display full path' option? This answer could save me a lot of work because my file names are in fact coded to directory paths. Thank you. (Sincerely, Ed Shaw)
