Hiding database
Hi,
Iam a VB developer. I recently saw a VB application from which i wasn't able to find which database it is using. It is a stand-alone application. All I could see is some csv files in the application directory. I also see files with the following extensions - .idx, .cfg, .his, .map, .odb. There is a database server running in the task bar but, i couldn't gather much details from it. All i want to know is, how do you hide the database from the user & which database is this that iam seein'? Some tips is badly needed. Pls help. |

I presume that the VB app is an executable you can access as a file? You can open the exe as a text file and troll through it looking for plaintext (typically at or near the end of the file) looking for recognizable strings. For some reason VB exes (at least for 6.0) have their strings all single spaced (meaning that the string 'bobisanob' would look like this: 'b o b i s a n o b'), so keep that in mind. I have used this technique to extract all sorts of information.
