Immediate Need To Learn SQL

I must learn SQL and how to interact with MS SQL Server. I am in a time crunch, and also need to be thorough and efficent.

What are your opinions on the best place to start? Best book to begin with, etc.

So far, the following book stands out:

SQL Queries for Mere Mortals:
A Hands-On Guide to Data Manipulation in SQL

Essentially, I have a complete website constructed graphically, with all my forms layed out as well as all of the pages that will display data. I need to now "PLUG IT IN" to a database. I have some experience with Cold Fusion.

Your opinions and knowledge are greatly appreciated.

that book is excellent, and i always leaf through it briefly when i visit my bricks-n-mortar bookstore

"guru's guide to transact-sql" by ken henderson is also good -- see foreword by joe celko here: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...=17#reader-link

since you seem to be new to database design, you may want to subcontract your first effort, and as you're new to MS sql server you probably need a DBA

I have to agree with Rudy. SQL is a huge language and there are many nuance's and syntax quirks. It may take you a couple of years to get to the level that you need to be at.

Simplified

If anyone is interested in a great low cost on-line course on Structured Query Language (SQL) this is the one. It is called "Introduction to SQL" and is facilitated by Cecelia L. Allison. This course is fun, interactive and informative. I still can't believe how much I learned in just six weeks. If you need to learn SQL and you want a simple approach, take this course. It is located at: URL

SQL

As much as you may hate this idea I suggest that you hit the books in school. I took 2 years to learn SQL and it is by now means a simple language. Go back to College while you can.
