looking for db with replication or failover
what is the best opensource (read free) db systems with replication and/or failover?

I guess the two most populare answers to this will be PostgreSQL and MySQL. I know that the replication capabilities of mysql are pretty good now, but the postgres camp would probably start yelling that with their robustness and scalability you won't need to replicate.. we'll let's see what comes.

i've only glanced at the docs on this. i think mysql can only handle one mirror? how 'bout the postgres projects? i want to setup something with more than one mirror. is that at all possible?
