Question Online Searchable Database

I am not sure what forum to post this on. But I am trying to figure out how to create an online searchable database for some word documents.

I have approx. 300 word documents that the "bosses" want online in a searchable format. Our webserver is running on a windows platform.

Some details are needed.
What would the person search by? ISBN? Author? Title? or some other item.

To help you decide check out Amazon.com search features for a book or media.

Online Searchable Database

I'm no expert but I dabble a bit now and then. From what I read, can I assume that the documents will be stored and users will be able to search for them using some kind of criteria e.g. Unique ID

If that is the case, I would just that the documents should not be stored in the database but instead in a file but a pointer to each document should be stored in the database.

In addition to searching based on some unique ID (isbn) you could also search based on attributes such as: title and/or keyword. In the case of keyword, you would have to set that up very carefully.

I hope I was able to help even a little bit..... if not, Sorrrry!!!!

**Warning ** Whatever you do, the printed copy should include the ISBN or part number that is unique in your DB. Otherwise people will be asking for *re-print* and the docs may be diffuclt to find...

For example a document gets entered into your DB. Then Mr. Artsy decides that the title should be differant and o-by the way he's now the new author!

There are tools that handle documents...go check 'em out.

Different boss, but must know yours!

So, Technewbie, did you complete your task? I have the exact task you do. The answers were not as helpful as I or probably you desired. I wish to search by content also, if possible.
