Unhappy List boxes and Combo boxes Access 97

I am a novice on Access 97 and this is probably a simply issue. I am trying to create a form with Comboboxes OR listboxes and I want to be able to link them to queries. There is two approaches that I am investigating
    1. being able to take the data string that is selected in either of the boxes and use it to open a specific query related specifically to the data.
2 being able to use the data string that is selected in either of the boxes and use it to open a single generic query that is modified to the data string selected to open a query.
I have tried many different computations but obviously not the right one.
    CAN ANYBODY HELP?

    Question

Will a command button to change the under lying queries work? I'm tring to understand what it is you want. You can write some code in the after update Event to change the queries in your combo box, I need to know the relationship between your data and the query your trying to call there needs to be a unique item in your data in order to call a certain query.
