Cannot edit DBEdit

i have a dbgrid and dbedit with a datasource,IBtable, and IBQuery..all my properties are set...when i run my app and scroll down the rows the dbedit shows the corresponding staffmember's name...how come i cannot edit the dbedit...what else must i set????? i dinamically set
DBEdit1.ReadOnly := False;

Make sure your dataset is an editable dataset.
