what are the main differences (advantages & disadvantages) between Borland CBuilder and Microsoft VisualC ?
i'm interested in portability, code optimization, compatibility of compiled programs in different systems

You'll get a lot of different things from different people, so the important thing to remember is what are getting are opinions. That goes for myself as well. With that disclaimer out of the way....
I greatly prefer Builder. It's so much more intuitive for a lot of things. I find it a lot easier use the forms, the object inspector is great, and there are a lot of components that come standard that you will be hard pressed to find for visual studio. As far a portability goes, you can have your pick-- An IDE made by the monopolistic (is that a word ) maker of windows, or one by a company that also makes an IDE for linux, and has been working on combining the code bases.
