Is Delphi hardly used? Any books?
I keep hearing good things about Delphi and thought I'd check it out. However, I can't seem to find any decent Delphi 7 books (except the Mastering Delphi 7).
There are also hardly any tutorials out there for it. |

I don't know how the Mastering Delphi books are nowadays, but when I worked with delphi, those were by far the best books available (IMO)... Can't go wrong with that to learn Delphi...

I have just got the mastering Delphi 6 book.
You can also do very powerful things with delphi. A good place to look for tutorials is on URL I my self wrote a simple tutorials "The basics of delphi" I myself found it difficult to find any tutorials or books about the language. Your best bet would be to check out planet source code and read up on pascal |

true, I looked around in several bookstores a couple of days ago, and there were indeed very few delphi books. times have changed apparently, cause when I used delphi there were plenty of books to choose from ...

I think the best book have read is Delphi Developer's Guide http://www.drbob42.com/books/D6.htm Is only for delphi6 but i think borland didn't changed many things between v6 and v7 |

Delphi Books
Delphi Books
Since Delphi 1 came out there have been a lot of books written, I have about a dozen. My favorite author is Marco Cantu. Charley Calvert has written some good books. Both these authors have a home page. You might get some of the older books used for a cheap price on the net. A lot of what has been written from Delphi 2 on up still applies. Also look at OReilly, they probably have one or two good reference books. When Delphi first came out, there were a lot of books available in Barnes and Noble stores, then all of a sudden they yanked them leaving mostly books on VB. I don't know how many people are using Delphi, more in Europe I suspect then in the U.S. I think there are a couple of factors influencing Delphi usage. One group thinks that any language that ends in "Basic" must be easier and another group thinks that any language that doesn't start with "c" must not be cool. Or perhaps since Pascal was known as a "teaching language" some people think that Delphi must not be powerful. In reality Delphi 's pascal is powerful and easy to read. I don't think that there are easy or hard languages as such but rather easy or hard problems to program. Delphi has a nifty IDE and compiles so fast you would think it was interpreted. I have not found any programming problems that I couldn't program in Delphi. For something interesting to do, look up some of the history on Pascal, Modula 2 and Oberon. Wirth is a smart guy. |

yeah, if you REALLY wanted to learn delphi, and found only a few resources on the internet, maybe you should stay away from it.

I do have a life.
If you haven't found anything worthwhile, you must be a very good programmer. Ironically, you don't know how to search the web. Let me help you with your search for resources by giving you a few links. http://www.google.com/ At amazon you will find 306 books on delphi. http://www.amazon.com/ (specifically, http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/s...6175489-1876832 ) There are less books at stores than, let's say, 4 years ago. But the ones out there are *decent*, and they are helpful when it comes to learn the basics. If you can't find a book good enough for learning delphi 7, you can always get a delphi 3, 4, 5 or 6. They will all help you get started with delphi. Even more constructive: http://catb.org/esr/jargon/html/S/STFW.html http://catb.org/esr/jargon/html/G/GIYF.html http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html If you meant "could anybody recommend me a good book for learning delphi?", it'd have been another story. But stating that there actually only a *few* resources suggests that you REALLY want others to do the job for you. I am not devoting any more time with a dumb moron who can't even search the web, or whose ego tells him that all millions of results at google aren't *good enough* for him. That's as far as I go. Don't even bother replying. |

If you could learn to read you'd notice my post was mostly looking for Delphi 7 books....but oh wait, you just want to be an asshole.
Go waste your posts elsewhere, moron. |
