Armor Effectiveness: Analysis
I ran an experiment to see how much armor really helps. I decided to fight a monster with just my fists, so I would take a lot of hits, and write down the results of the first 30 times I took damage.
I did this when I moved up to level 28, because I was gonna upgrade my armor anyway (need level 28 to buy chainmail). I started with leather armor, sold it and tried again with no armor, and then one more time with the chainmail. To get the best results, I wanted to use the highest level monster from which I could take 90 hits in one day, so I went with Aziboah. Here are the results (in order of weakest armor to strongest): 1) No Armor (0 protection, 0 devs) Code:
Avg Damage Attack Type #Hits ---------- ----------- ----- 41 Punching 2 52.5769 Normal 26 53 Special 2 Total ----- 1555 2) Leather Armor (17 protection, 170 devs) Code:
Avg Damage Attack Type #Hits ---------- ----------- ----- 42.7272 Punching 11 50.8571 Normal 14 59.4 Special 5 Total ----- 1479 3) Chainmail (28 protection, 600 devs) Code:
Avg Damage Attack Type #Hits ---------- ----------- ----- 48 Punching 5 52.9545 Normal 22 53.6666 Special 3 Total ----- 1566 Special attacks refer to things like "momentarily blinded", "BOOT TO THE HEAD", "jumped off the top rope", etc. As you can see, I took more damage while wearing the $600 chainmail than while wearing no armor at all. The leather armor did a little better, but I think that was mostly due to more punching attacks during that sample. In summary- Armor does absolutely nothing, and here's the statistical proof. In fact, if you look at the punching attack the damage taken even goes up a little. I should also note that it was while wearing chainmail that I was "ripped to shreds". Since that doesn't have an actual damage value I had to discount that from the stats, but I wanted to mention it because I had just spent roughly 1000 devs healing ![]() I have the hit-by-hit journal in an excel spreadsheet. I was thinking about doing something similar for weapons when I reached level 30 (maybe also track misses), but this experiment cost over 3000devs to run, so we'll have to see what my account balance is like (it's was at 0 when I started this entry).

I had a suspicion that armour was only any good in player versus player combats and those stats tend to support thise feelings.
