Yay, built a castle. Took 35 turns of building, 5 stone blocks, 100 gems, 100k gold.

Yay, finally my hitpoints are a nice, round number: 1024.

Ah, the subtle approach.
I missed it because I didn't always put my gems into the bank before I go to kill the dragon.
I do now though.

Only a programmer would think 1024 is a nice round number. Where do all those HP come from, anyway? I, at least, lose max HP as fast or faster than I can build them up via gems.

1 gem for HP for every 1 gem saved for a weapon upgrade.
Makes good sense.
I'm going a different route.
I was being stingy with my gems, and keeping my HPs really low.
But, since I invested 700 gems to kill a dragon, I've decided to keep a 'float' - if you like.
I maintain a certain value of gems by buying some at level 1 after killing the dragon.
Some dragon kills I'll have to top up my HPs by up to nearly 100 HPs.
Other times though, I can get lucky and only have to top up my HPs by 4 - 10 HPs.
Those are quite infrequent - you are much more likely to be whacked more often.
I did notice that as a Titan you don't get hit by the kids as much, but then again, it wouldn't take you to since you don't get nearly as many gems.
If it hasn't been said before (and it has) then I'll say it again, if you want gems then you'll need to be a Viking.
That's not to say I've tested all the races, but Viking worked for me and I've been content ever since.
Check out other races if you like and post back to let us know if you come across another race that also pumps out gems like the Viking.

I'm usually a viking though I'm currently going through a DK as a Titan, just to see how fast I can do it (pretty fast- with my high alignment I'm getting 60+ turns per day to start with, plus whatever I get from Ale & flawless fights. That's a w00t thread post all on it's own! As another side note, I was whacked four times in the same game day as a Titan). Even as a Viking I usually only average somewhere close to 1 gem per 2 forest fights, rather than the 1:1 I hear others talk about. It usually takes me > 400 kills to get the 250 gems for a 4th tier weapon.

If you have a very high alignment (I think it starts at 50, but I recommend waiting for 150+), then Paladin Gifts starts to look pretty good. You lose 20 alignment when you first select it, so plan for that. After that, though, you get an extra use point per 5 alignment above 50. Since my alignment is over 200 after my next DK I will start at level 1 with more than 15 uses. And the Paladin mount ability is guaranteed to give you at least two, usually 3 or 4, flawless fights, or I could just keep choosing Smite Enemy (50% attack bonus) as soon as it wears off for just about an entire day.

Combine Paladin gifts with the Titan race, and you also get an HP bonus at each new day (not max hp), plus 5 alignment when you select the race, a small strength bonus, and an extra turn per 5 alignment ( I start with > 60 turns right now). Of course, then you need all the extra uses to keep up with all the turns

1:1 is a crock-of-sh*te. More like 2 fights to 1 gem . . . if you are having a good run. [NB folks - it's not a science].See, what you say is about 2:1 too.
The question is though - how long does it take you to do 400 kills?
I can do it in a day.
