The theiving wouldn't be a big deal if they weren't so hard to come by at times. I finally upgraded my tier two weapon to level two after only 193 kills (without a single gem stolen during that stretch). At this rate I get about one upgrade per dragon kill :/ And I don't even want to think about tier three.

I will admit they have been coming easier now that I'm back in the lower levels, so if there's anything to that I meet need to include that in my strategy.

I know I have had some stolen, but not that many as I have never had that many. I recall someone mentioning that various races have different gem finding chances, or am I imagining that? I just hope that elves are the worst at finding them as I hate to think of anyone seeing them less frequently than me!

If you can get throw the castle I've found 8 in there so far, normally about 4 at a time, and if you die in there you don't seem to lose xp, so do all your forest fights then go to tor and try not to die

I have had in the course of killing 3 dragons about 75 or so gems as a dwarf. I would guess that I average around 25 or so per 15 levels...but then I end up just trading them all in for charm so I can get with that babe in the bar...Lover's Protection (59 rounds left) this but stay away from my lady or I will come find you when you are sleeping

Actually I heard about a Jewellery mod, which lets you swap Gems for jewellery, and can't be stolen by Testpig. You can change it back to Gems when you are ready.
