Upgrade or not?
spoiler alert- if you are a farm boy or girl don't read yet.

My weapon is sitting at 3:10. The next upgrade will be into tier 4, which requires 250 gems & 500 kills per upgrade, and will cost me quite a bit of damage. In light of the recent attacks by kids with bats that keep costing me max hp, I'm not likely to see 250 gems any time soon. I was thinking, though, of perhaps trying to save up the gems and going into tier 4 just before a dragon kill. Then, when I'm resurrected and can get nearly 100 fights per game day I could do my first upgrade while I'm at a lower level. Good plan, or should I just stay at tier three?

I'm going to stay at 3:10 until I have at least 1000 gems in the bank - and then I'll only need the kills.

Hmm I just realised that a 4:8 is only 2 points stronger than a 3:10.

I've got an amulet that normalizes my damage and/or armor back to the previous high, so I upgraded to level 4 without hesitation. But otherwise I guess your plan sounds good.

Oh and at those 12 year olds.
