1sthostweb - anyone else suffering?
I have a domain registered through 1sthostweb.com - and they are hosting the site for me... that was until a couple of days ago when they suffered a physical breakin from a cracker in Kosovo who somehow managed to steal my domain (and about 70 others I'm told). I have been unable to get 1sthostweb to resolve the issue. they don't reply to my emails and the site is still dead - apparently for sale!!!
Any one else suffering? Christo

Your domain name is registed with registration people such as Nominet (.co.uk). A hacker can re-direct a server to point at another domain, but the I.P. address and URL are stored on ultra-secure servers at the proper companies.
As such a hacker shouldn't be able to "steal" your domain name.

confusing
They tell me now that tne domain was bought thru dot register - 1HW are just resellers, so the breakin was further upstream. I still don''t understand how it was possible, though for this individual to just cherry-pick those domains that he fancied!! - seems incredible.
I now have full control of the site, but by coincidence, its contents are all gone. I mean the whole lot has been removed. The web space is empty - no html, php, database gone - the lot!! That is really really serious. Thank goodness the site hasn't yet gone live - launch due in a couple of months!! I think I might go onto the hosting forum and look for a more reliable deal, huh! just to expand on that a little, it was 1stHostWeb.com who suffered a break in and what's more, the whole site was deleted and they only keep 3days of backup. Now the whole lot has gone - database, pages, php scripts, months and months of work. I spoke to their technical guy and he was on a windows machine and barely knew a thing about Unix...
A couple of lessons to learn here - 1)you get what you pay for 2)Avoid these guys like the plague!! xpucto |
