48 Hours to the End of the World

Ok, so maybe it's not THAT dramatic, but still - 48 hours from now we could definitely be at war, and 48 hours from now we'll at least know for certain whether or not we're going (as if we don't already).

So let's hear opinions!

Yeah, I'd argue that the world has known America would be going to war for months now. I mean, do you commit billions of dollars and over 100 000 troops to a war machine and pull the plug?

I still think Bush is a decietful, lying, egotistical maniac... but, since war is inevitable at this point (unless Hussein dies of a heart attack or something shortly..) - we may as well make the "best" of it.

Some of my favorite parts of his speech tonight:

- Iraq using WMD on other countries.
Ummm... Like Iran? It was OK then...

- We wanted a peaceful solution.

- We're freeing the Iraqi people and building a new Iraq.
Geez, if I were the Iraqis I'd be afraid. I hope he doesn't mean like the bang up job we've done helping to get Afghanistan back on its feet.

- Iraq has a long history of aggression.
Yea, most of it U.S. gov't funded.

- Iraq hates us for no good reason.
No, it's not like we handed them a bunch of lethal weapons and let them run amok in the Middle East, then bitch-slapped and vilified them when our oil interests were suddenly threatened.

Going into Iraq and cutting off Saddam's nuts is fine by me, but I really get tired of the government making themselves out to be some sort of heroic saviour when in fact they're the enabler and catalyst for a lot of these nuts in the first place. There is a REASON much of the rest of the world views the U.S. as a two-faced villianous bully - it's government has a nasty tendency to play the part...

One other thing that pisses me off about this whole mess that I heard them talking about on the radio earlier:

We're getting the Vietnam effect in a lot of anti-war people. That is, they villify, mock, and harrass TROOPS who are going to fight. This seriously irritates me, and I seriously hope we don't have any of those idiots here... go after the suited desk-jockeys sending these kids to die, not the kids who would lay down their lives to protect you, your rights, and your home.

Why - because he is the only president since Reagan that has vowed to protect our country at all costs, protect you and your family, me and my family -

Lets look back - PHarbour - the smoke cloud by japan (as iraq is doing now or has been doing for months) that enabled them to attack and kill over 3,000 of my fellow americans - people that WE ALL OWE OUR LIVES AND LIVELYHOOD TO - the administration totally overlooked thier abilities and took no action; look what happened.

911 - The administration before the Bush Administration knew of the problem (btw; documented everywhere) and totally avoided it and caused the US once again to take a great loss in casualties - a disgrace to our country was that administration for letting 911 happen.

Today - Our President announces that he with the war machine will prevent such an attack as 911 from happening again and know everyone wants to give him static - that is down right BS - no one realizes what a thread this person is to the world, what he has done, and people want to pat this guy on the back which is the only thing that the anti-war protestors are showing the world while looking like complete idiots on tv.

Maybe when you get a couple of kids and start becoming very concerned about what the future will hold for them then maybe you will realize that things like this will make thier lives safer and give you a little peice of mind like it has for me.

Of course, we had to provoke Japan into attacking us so we could enter WW2 in the first place. Now, Bush doesn't care how we enter the war, so let's just go in and kill Saddam. I know all you said about 911 and all, but if we worked more on defense within our borders, that wouldn't have happened. I mean, airport security was very lax in those days. It's not our place to go and "preserve the peace" by attacking every country in the world that may be a threat to us. We should work inside our borders before making a global statement. I mean, what has Saddam done since the Gulf War? Nothing. So why all the rush?

So - we wait till he strikes, as the terrorist have? Thats the main problem, it does not matter what he has done, it matters what he is capable of doing. He is capable of mass terror, terror that the current administration has vowed to rid the world of, so it is needed as diplomacy has not worked in this case...


You needed to preach this back with the last administration and preach it with the government lunitics who all said that the homeland security bill was a mistake - the same lunitics that were part our last administration and who has caused alot of the problems we are seeing now by letting the terrorists biuld up thier arsenals and letting iraq build up (or back) thier arsenal.

What kind of a precedent does an attack on a developing country create when they have committed no international offense? If we wanted him, we should have gotten him when we had a chance in the Gulf War. Nothing has changed since then, except presidents. Now, all of the sudden, it's an immediate threat. True, but we're not done and I think it's important to secure lands within our borders before we take international matters into our own hands. What kind of a nation does it make us look like if we interfere with everyone else's business but can't handle our own affairs? I'm not saying I'm against the war, I just don't think we're ready, and we need to set an exanple for other countries to follow.

Joe, you're fighting the wrong fight with me man. I'm not against taking off Saddam's head, I'm against the way the administration is going about it and the way they're portraying themselves.

I know this for a fact because I was petting it today and giving it treats, when I decided to kick it in the ribs for trying to take a bite of my hamburger. It barked at me, so I knocked out it's teeth and left. I have reason to believe, however, that it's growing teeth back. I can't find them, but there's no evidence to say that I knocked them all out and that the dog got rid of the rest. I tried to tell the dog that it had to lose its teeth or pay the price, but every time it showed me its mouth, I just scoffed because that's not good enough. *BANG* Oh my, it seems the neighbors are pissed off now and they're coming to get me, that's ok, *BANG* *BANG* I'm doing pretty weleerrrrk........................

CTB - you make the Bush Administration sound like they are bad people, or people without a legitimate cause. You are talking about a dog now when we are talking about a war, so no - mttatkns it does not sum anything up.

Every single political thread I have seen from you to date is nothing about but bashing the current administration, why? Are you a former Clinton supporter or something - did your vote for Al Gore go to waste - I don't quite grasp your political threads.
