A Plus Cert Test..
I just started to study for the A plus test. I wanted to know if anyone has taken it and how they went about studying for it. I just picked up a book from B Daltons. It seems pretty good so far.
I also wanted to know how many questions are on each part during the real test. In the book they had 30 on each section and I was scoring around a 60 on each part (yeah i got a lot of studyin to do) .. shows how usless a collage education really is for Computer Science. Unless I wanna be a programmer college is USELESS!!!!!! Not that I dont enjoy programming I just wanna do more myself and explorer the possibility of being a Network technican, as compared to a programmer |

Ummmm.... two things my friend:
1) Last time I checked - the Computer Science curriculum generally referred to program and not troubleshooting / repair - hence the lack of troubleshooting and repair knowledge. 2) For networking jobs you should be looking at Network+ and Cisco certifications. As far as A+ goes.. blaugh... I switched out of Computer Information Systems in favor of Web Development with an emphasis on programming. But.. if you really want to know, focus mainly on the underlying facts, not so much the theories. For example... I guarentee you will have to list off the IRQ levels and what each one is for. Memorize stupid facts about DMA channels, Hard Disk Drive design such as cylinder / head / sector setup and the difference between HDD types. Be able to explain at the drop of a hat what the chipset does in great detail. Memorize stupid Windows facts like "How big is the typical config.sys file in Wndows 98" (0Kb - it's useless). What keys executes the menu-assisted step-by-step loading of Windows in Win98 (Shift+F8)? How do you restore a damaged registery? When it comes to A+, the devil is most definitely in the (trifling) details... |
