A taste of C#

I know the final version has yet to come out, but has anyone played around with C# yet? If so I would like to hear your opinions about it.

superior_platform ? "J2EE" : ".NET"

Micro$lop proprietary technologies are bad... just look at how awful visual basic is! (VB programmers won't know what I mean -- experienced Java and C++ programmers who have tried to learn VBScript probably will)

C# is going to be powerful n' all, but if you decide to move your server to Unix from IIS (wise decision...) you won't be able to run whatever masterpieces you created on .NET. (esp. since I think you're forced to use Anti-Scaling Program to present the data to the browser... UGH!)

Java is as powerful as .NET, cross-platform, created by an awesome company, has excellent MVC (Model View Controller) libraries available (like struts), and Java is a very rewarding language to learn for other things. (Java programmers make more $$$ than ASP programmers, for instance )

I'd rather be free to choose between Unix/Linux and Windows (Mac OS/OSX aren't even worth mentioning) as my server OS rather than be restricted to Windblows and swiss cheese (Windows IIS:It's like walking around with handfuls of twenties and handing a loaded gun to every criminal you meet) as my OS/Server and use .NET as my dev platform

I expect a flaming now

sLiPkNoT rUlEz,

I don't know if I would have agreed with you six months ago, but I have been using IIS/ASP environment for quite some time now and didn't realize how displeased I was with it until a month ago I decided to give JSP a try with an Apache/Tomcat configuration. Its slick.
I still need to buy a new box though. I'm not quite ready to altogether give up my MS OS, but I'd really like to through my Apache on a UNIX system.

by the way nice IIS analogy.
