I do all my sites in Dreamweaver with an element of hard coding some javascript. What can I buy that would integrate well with these sites for customers who do not wish for me to do updates and perhaps make my job of updating sites a little easier for companies who do want me to update; not that I have a problem using Dreamweaver. Thanking in advance. Pixelj

What you are talking about is a web based admin system for the sites. Now for this to work you need a database. The type of database you need and the design of it depends on what data you are storing. The type of forms that the web based admin system will have depend on what data the database needs. In short, its not really possible to make something that suits everyone and works for everyone. when it comes to updating websites its normally a very different proccess for each site.

Hey a.koepke, thanks for the reply. Is there alot of work in it to change a few select areas of the site over to call text from a database? Is that why asp is such a popular programming language? Thanking is advance.

Hahahahah I would second the reccomendation above. Don't use ASP, its is very horrid to use since it uses Visual Basic code. ASP is only used by those who have not experienced the Open Source/GNU world. I know ASP and I know PHP too. I was once a Windows only person and only used ASP. I have now gone away and only use PHP. It is so much nicer to program in and a lot easier to learn. |

As for why ASP is so popular? It's Micro$oft and the same people who get all their information from the boob tube use it because of that. ![]() // duck the flames.... duck the flames.... |

Another option would be a CMS, I suppose. Then you wouldn't necessarily have to get into database stuff (you could though, since most CMSs are server-side).
The only client side CMS I know of is http://www.fogcreek.com/CityDesk/ . Never used it, so I can't give you much information. Another option is to do some xml/xslt work to build your .html files. That could be a bit more complicated, though.
