I went for two trimesters. Quitting was the stupidest thing I ever did.
If you want a "well-rounded liberal arts" education, don't go to DeVry. If you want a solid technical/business education, it's among the best.

Funny you should ask that, because I've been looking at them too.
What did you go for, rod? |

Give you an idea, tho... had one programming class there and learned more about proper programming (structure, reusability, etc) then I did in two years as a CS major at a liberal arts uni... |

You probably hear in the ads how their instructors have "real world experience." It's no lie. That's why you learn more. Not some guy who teaches theory that he doesn't really understand, but someone who KNOWS why and which theories work and can therefore teach the theory with REAL examples.

How tough is it to get in? I have something like a 3.18 overall GPA right now (should be popping up to around 3.3 by the end of the semester) and a 3.35 program GPA (should be popping to around a 3.5). However, if they do testing to help determine who can / can't go, I'll have a better shot. If they're tough on transcripts, I'll probably just retake the two classes I blew early on before applying. That should bump me to a 3.5ish and a 3.6ish.

You don't even need a transcript!!! If you do? Great!!! If you don't take GED or CHSPE (California High School Proficiency Exam) if you live in California. I will take CHSPE on April 28th - Best of luck to me! They will have you to take their placement test, the math part is a piece of cake, but the reading comprehension and sentence structure part was a bit convoluted. Also, you have to be 17 by the time you start your first day of class. They let me take their class on april 28th. although i'm not yet 17 and haven't taken my CHSPE. they said I got really high scores. Honestly, it was no big deal, even one gets almost perfect score. Why? glad you asked.Too many "stupid" people think that because it's so easy to get into DeVry, they will also get an easy time getting through college. so what happens, many of these kinds of people take the test, and to make up most of the percent of test-takers, the results are not generally good!! people who are average or smart do really well on the test, but these people would rather go to State Universities. also, a lot of people has the impression that Devry is a low-grade college institution. all as in all my relatives think that Devry has no BS degrees!!! Fact is they also offer MBA through Keller School of Graduates. Because of this my uncle even insisted on his s**its about finishing high school for months. he never persuaded, so no choice, I was going to register and he thought he should come to. he did, and he told me "i told you Devry is a good school." I was just quiet, but want to sock him. |

Here in Calgary we have the only non-american Devry Campus (AFAIK) and it seems that there is a bit of a stigma on them. Not too sure why but devry seems to be the but of a lot of jokes.
It may be because: 1. goofy commercials 2. they are private here and it costs about 3 times more to go there than going to another technical school. 3. biased opinions from other institutions Having said that I have managed 2 devry grads, they were competent but not outstanding. |

Son, I graduated HS over 4 years ago
![]() I'm concerned about college transcripts. If it goes by testing I'll be fine, but a lot of school consider transferring GPA a big factor which doesn't do me much good I'm defnitely checking out DeVry. |
