If you haven't seen this movie, go see it. It's not 100% accurate, but its a good movie.

Seems to me Drum Line is going to be stupid by mixing rap/r&b with high school band.. high school band members are usually referred to as band geeks.. and afro-americans who stand around and rap or just dance are usually homies or players.. so does that mean these a player geeks or homie dorks?

What the heck are you talking about? You are obviously quite misguided. This is a movie about HBCU marchinf bands. It's about college not high school. HBCU band members are not seen the same way as those at your high school. Heck band members at University of Michigan are not seen that way. HBCU marching bands have a totally different style. They play many of the classical and marching band music that high school bands and drum corps play, but they also mix in the popular music of rock, poip, rap, and r&b. It is a tottaly different style. Thier style has more of an intense and showman feel to it. At HBCUs band members are not geeks or nerds because they don't seperate themselves from the mainstream and nither do the bands. At HBCU band members often hang with the popular crowd and are in most of the orginizations on campus. Band members are actually looked up to and the dancing girls are more popular and desiered than cheerleaders. When HBCU bands perform no one leaves the seats at half-time. That is why events like the Bayou Classic make so much money for the citie that hosts them. Most HBCUs have 10% the enrollment of the big schools but still have 60,000 pluis at thier games. It's because of the bands. When HBCU band go perform at high schools or regular collges, people are shocked and amzed that bands like those exist.
Players and Hiomies, I don't understand that comment DeepLott, oh I mean DeepCode. Trust me Drumline is a good movie, and it's not one of those silly movies like the cheerleader movie "Bring it On." Are you from the North? |

Oh cripes... we got the computer geeks talkin' bout LOR (midnight showing baby... midnight showing.. the only way my gf will actually be more embarrased is if I dress up) and we got the band geeks talkin' about Drumline. Next thing y'know there's gonna be a sword/drumstick fight breakin' out in the lounge

I'm not a real big fan of bands, college, hs, or otherwise.. and since the bloody movie theatre's charge $8 a person to get in, and I need to keep my CC clear to see LOTR... again... and again... and again... and again... I don't think I'll have the cash. Maybe if the blasted movies didn't cost so much I'd take a chance on more movies like this, but I don't know about you folks, I just don't have the money ![]() By the way.. what does HBCU stand for anyway? |

I am completely opposite. I plan to see the movies I want to see before I spend it on Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. I'm gonna see movies like Ghost Ship, the Ring, Drumline, 8 Mile, and Half Past Dead first. |

I saw 8 Mile. It's not a bad movie, but it's really not my KIND of movie. Still, if you're into the whole "down and out nice guy beats all the odds and wins in the end" type of deal, I'd say go for it. Ghost Ship just look likes another pasty, cheeseball horror movie some puffball movie maker pumped out to make some quick cash (as opposed to the Scream series in which a non-puffball movie maker pumped a couple of cheesball movies out to make some quick (and, in this case, big) cash.. lemme see here... what do you think would happen when you took your varsity cheerleader Scream-fan date to see Texas Chainsaw Massacre? There's no scary movies anymore [imagine the big, exasperated sigh]). |

Surely the difference is just taste
We just have different areas of interest. However I will say that LOTR is not simply another movie like Harry Potter (although Harry Potter was pretty good) it is landmark If you thought the first film was good, this one will be better! If you'all don't see in on the big screen, you'll be missing out. And can I personally say that the Uruk army will scare the **** out of you ![]() |

Half Past Dead? OH GOSH! First off, Steven Seagal is the worst martial artist in the world. I was happy he died right away in Executive Decision. He's so slow that my grandmother moves faster than him. Also, I hate Ja Rule. Why? I don't really know. He's like a little cockaroach. Now you mix them together in a movie where they're in prison and Seagal wears a du rag? Not one movie I would see. </rant>

At least ya'll get actually to see those movies. Here, down under, they just showed "die another day" - month after release in the states. And that's with big names, smaller ones don't come out up untill 3 months later, sometimes more. Yeah I went to see it first night it showed. Nothing great. Much like with spiderman - overhyped average movie. LOTR, I think, will be out in a couple of weeks.
So while ya'll bitch which movie sucks more, I watch trailers and hope I'll live long enough to check out the movies on big screen. *sigh*

As far as LOTR, it will be interesting to see, but I will wait until the next day for the cheap seats. I just can't see paying 8 bucks for a seat when I can spend that much and get popcorn and a drink for the same price. On another note (cheesy horror movies) who saw Jason X? I couldn't resist. ![]() |

Me and my wife were in the mood for a horror movie and rented the JasonX DVD about a week ago. What a waste of money - my god, what a wate of money. If we put together a list of cheesy movies, JasonX would be in the top 2...... ![]()
