Anyone using Mozilla Firebird?
Just downloaded Moz FB 0.6 this wknd @ home, now @ work.
It smokes. Its easily faster than Moz 1.21 and MSIE 6. If you're on Moz 1.x or MSIE, its worth taking a look at it. Anyone else using Moz FB? Thoughts? Impressions?

Yes - as a matter of fact I use Mozilla to output records from my Firebird Database.

lol fwiw, Firebird is just an internal project name for Mozilla's next browser. Getting pissed at Mozilla for using the name Firebird would be like getting pissed at MS for using the name 'longhorn ', or at apple for using the name 'jaguar' to describe their operating system releases. Once MozFB is passed the current v1.4 release, it'll use the name 'mozilla', just like their current browser. ![]() |

using Mozilla Firebird 0.6 atm, it is becomming my main browser on linux,
but still using moz1.4b in windows, its ok, but there is something i'm missing compared to mozilla, and there some changes i don't like, mainly just how the menus are set up, but nothing i don't can get used to. but i like how they've gathered themes and extensions at one site, making it easy to find the most usefull. impressed how it has evolved since the 0.5 version. ( though i have used some the nightly built for a while now,) |

drgroove: yes, that is what they are saying now after they had a huge backlash against them.
1. State that your project is going to use same name as someone elses and that your legal team has decided that its okay (don't bother asking the other prject here) 2. Get heaps of crap thrown at you for making that choice. Argue that you have every right to do this and there is nothing they can do about it. 3. Do a backflip and say 'Oh what are you getting annoyed about, its a project name only' aka Them talking to legal team and legal team telling them to do that and tell everyone to get stuffed. I think that sums up the situation quite well. Oh and yes i do use Firebird at work but use the browser only install of the complete app suite (Seamonkey) at home. |

Good point. Well, I can't defend their actions in this whole mess... at least they did the right thing in the end, and renamed the browser back to just Mozilla. Outside of all the political crap they've gotten themselves into, its still a great browser. |

lol - I ain't mad at em. I am sort of a little discouraged by there actions, especially the changing of the documentation to try to cover up the big mess that they caused and the removal of threads on the mozillazine forum (which did happen - I was doing some writing on the dilema and had a good thread from the discussion bookmarked to go back to for my writing, and it was gone). But, it is all over with, so its all good now...

Oh there is no denying that point. Thats why, despite them acting like trolls, I am still using the browser. It will take a lot more than this issue to cause me to go back to IE.

Hehe... I agree with Joe that it was a not the classiest behavior on the part of a few Mozilla people. And trying to cover up without any apology...
.But, the new Mozilla release is nice. And the fact that it does NTLM authentication is a major step toward relieving many businesses of dependence on IE. So, I hope eventually we can all get past this and back to the real business of geeks everywhere -- trashing Microsoft . |

![]() The main 54-page thread that "disappeared" from the forums can be found here: http://www.mozillazine.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9133 Having said that, they make a great browser. My favorite feature is right clicking a hyperlink and selecting "Open in a New Tab". Every time I get on a machine with just IE I realize what a pain it is to have all those separate open windows. Having all my webpages opened in a single browser is really helpful. Zsa Zsa Gabor had a great quote when she said "I never hated a man enough to give him his diamonds back." As annoying as Mozilla was, I'm not going to toss their browser aside just to spite them. |

I like the tabs feature too. I have scrolling mouse and have finger on scroll wheel a lot when using web. Just click on link by pressing scroll wheel and link loads in new tab

if you like tabs i recommend
the Tabbrowser Extensions addon http://texturizer.net/firebird/exte...er%20Extensions works in moz and mozFB, the extension allows you to have full control over the windows, like you can set how the focus of the tabs shall be, make everything open in tab regardless of either target or script. |
