Australian Senator Richard Alston spends AU$4 million on website
The Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts in Australia has managed to spend AU$4 million on their site. Australian IT news artcile here
How in the world they can justify using that CMS solution is beyond me. This is not all though, the story gets better. After the Australian wrote this article The Register wrote their view on matters with a link to the site and the Australian IT article here. Today ZDNet released an article regarding Senator Alston's response to the Australian IT article, this can be found here. The Senator's article regarding this matter can be seen here Quote:
WTH? If you go to the site http://www.richardalston.dcita.gov.au it redirects to a page on the main DCITA site and uses the same CMS package. He is a complete idiot. The fact that they can spend AU$4 million on a site is bad enough, to then deny that he is at fault for it is just insane. |

Well, lets not forget the system that thing is running on - and the power it has in the office enviroment also. In short, theres alot more to it than what we are all seeing...

still, for 4 million, you'd think that the site would at least look decent.

<sigh....> and I can recall doing better stuff than this site for less than 1% of that cost </sigh>
Again, this reinforces my theory that the software industry, and software development in general, just can't be judged by all the old rules of efficiency and labor.
