Hey JD,
Long time no see. Glad things are going well for you :-) Well, in my opinion you would be better off sticking with your current job, they have just given you a nice hefty pay rise, you are getting good exposure due to the fact that Infy have once again seen your potential and have attempted to poach you from your current employer. Yes Infy are a bigger company, but once your there your pretty much stuck, you will be among (from the sounds of it) very very good IT people so it will be hard to achieve the kind of exposure you need hence making it harder to get a pay rise. Stick it out where you are, especially if you are enjoying the work, soon enough you will get even more offers, higher paid and your likely to see Infy come back and offer you even more than what they are offering now. (But if you went now, you would be very unlikly to ever see from them) Play the company the way they try to play people, thats my motto. HTH with your choice Oh and one more thing, companies (especially start-ups) really appreciate loyalty and do show it. I know, I run a few.

Some things to ponder:
1) How valuable would you be to the company you're working with now if you had a year or two of training/experience provided by Infy? 2) Where are you going to get more actual experience? Simple projects in another country, or complicated projects at home? 3) You'll never be as free to change your life as you are right now. It only gets harder the older you get. It will be harder to break away from a good job with high salary and benefits to work abroad than it will be to break away from what you currently have. 4) I work for crap pay at a great job because I love it, I love the people I work with, they put up with my student schedule, and I know I have a future there. What do you want out of your job? |

Congrats on the decision. I wish you well at the new job..
When you say you're making 18K, what currency is that in? I don't now what currency India uses. How much does that equate to in U.S. dollars? Just curious... ---John Holmes... |

18k Indian Rupees.
That equates to 360 USD !!! But mind well, according to Indian standards this is good salary by any stretch of imagination.Btw, The freelancing I do, I charge around 45$/hour and I earn more than what this job can pay me just by working few hours !!! Thats how the life is. ![]() JD |

Sorry for my general cluelessness, but is that 18,000 rupees per year, per month, or per week? ...just trying to make sure I understand the general scale we are talking about.

Just remember, don't be afraid of change. Yes, there is something to say about loyalty, but I've gotten screwed a couple of times by staying loyal to a company that I never got anything out of. Give it an honest go for a while and if you start advancing and making a difference, great. If not, tell them you'll be moving on...

JDK, I respect you a lot, mainly because you have given me pretty good advice on occassions and the fact that I have never been in your predicament (would be nice though), so I am just going to side with whatever you choose and encourage you to do whatever you feel is right. If you are concerned about the company, I recommend researching it financial status, finding out how they treat thier employees, etc. Some stuff about INFY if you want to research: NASDAQ:INFY -> |
