Blatantly rude forum users...

Now don't get me wrong...
I do appreciate that forums need rules which should be adhered to (this one and other's that I use) but is it really necessary for certain members to write incredibly rude responses to other members' questions. Such as purely:

"Read the rules"

This doesn't help us...The people who have come on this forum for help.

Alright, maybe we have posted in a way the forum God's (and indeed various up-themselves members) don't like, but that doesn't deserve such a rude response.

My advice:
If you're going to take the time to write a response, make it a half decent one. The original post may not be to your liking, but so what? If you can understand what the thread originator is going on about enough to be able to write a sarcastic reply, you can understand it enough to try and give a constructive answer.

Rant over.!

You stated that you appreciate that forums need rules, but you complain when community members enforce those rules. If you are going to be a member of the community, then you are expected to observe that communities rules. Those that don't usually get reprimanded.
People that don't search for thier own answers, don't try to help themself, and/or don't give enough information to be help need to know what they need to do to help.
The same goes for people who post bad information and/or people who post in threads with information that has already been given previously in the thread. Why? Because they aren't paying attention to the thread. Don't give things a half-assed effort and don't proclaim to know about something if you aren't sure.
If you are guessing, then let them know.

In short, two things.
1) If you see the same question 10, 100 or 1000 times you going to start getting short with people.
2) If people aren't informed that they are doing wrong, when will they stop doing it?

True, but it's not like people have to go storming in like George W into Iraq, and put down a quite pathetic and frankly rude answer just because they are getting "short" as you put it

The point I'm getting at, which you seem to have overlooked (!!) my friend, is that what is better? To ignore it and not get "short", or to reply to the post, p*ss yourself off and p*ss other people off?

I didn't miss the point at all, but it seems you didn't get my reply.
What is better is the help the person not make the same mistake twice.

You consider "Read the rules" rude?

That response is not at all rude. It can be considered polite compared to a few of the members, who shall remain nameless. :P

What is really strange to me is why people don't search the forum for their answers. You can get your answer a heck of a lot faster by searching rather than waiting for replies to your post.

This forum has actually turned into a great codebase with explanations!! When I'm stuck on something I search and often find several different ways to approach a problem that hadn't even occured to me.

If you are so thin skinned that "Read the rules" offends you, I would get off the net. If you would like to see what can happen go to the Apache forum and post a subject like "Help"

Heh heh, let me know if you do.

What amazes me is that someone with 4 posts to his credit feels as tho he has the standing in the community to criticize how we police ourselves....

That's why I told him to post in the Apache forum with a subject of "Help". Freebsd will give a wakeup call on the meaning of rude.

And it just happens there is an even balance between people asking and answering questions in a rude manner

Who cares if it's rude or not. as long as they answer the question.

what's rude is to flame w/o an answer. but most people here tell you about the rules in a nice manner (1st time at least) and include an answer.

then there are two ways. 1 you except the fact that you broke the rules, and the topic continues according to the subject. OR you start acting all smartass and cocky, then it's another flame post.

just an opinion
