Can I retract my concerns about DevShed?
When the changes were happening here at DevShed and the cat
was out of the bag about the new owners I stated that I thought the place that enjoy coming to (20 or so times a day) maybe turning into a advertisement nightmare. I also said that it was over as far as a good place to talk and help without being accosted by banners and other assorted ads. (I thought for sure pop-ups were coming). I was wrong, I'll admit it. If DevShed continues in the new direction it is taking, things will be ok. The banners never were a bother for me. And the new text ads are certainly not in any way accosting. The new admins seem very attentive and have breathed new life into this place. So thank you DevShed providers, and again, my appologies for the negative energy that was left in my name. |

Hmm - Apology accepted! We are going to do our best to grow DevShed and make it the place to come to for Open Source information. We have some other additions in the works that I think will really add some benefit to our visitors as well. Stick around, you aint seen nothin yet!

Along those lines, I've been visiting here from time to time lately and find it a nice place to discuss a variety of development related topics. In terms of helping others with problems and gaining more knowledge myself, it's great. Keep up the good work.

There are a LOT of ads. It's just that it's not aggresive advertising. A whole lot of links but no banners hogging all the space (vertical banners like in forums.2cpu.com is mistake IMO).
I'm against against all types of marketing but hey, it pays the bandwith. ![]() |

I haven't been here in a while. Who bought devshed? There used to be popups in devshed, weren't there?
I *LOVE* love the new setup. People seem friendlier than before. You guys are doing a great job. Site design looks identical to sitepoint though? Did SP buy you out? |

I bought DevShed. Im just an individual - not one of these companies borging all of the developer sites. Site design has some similarities to sitepoint, but we have no relation to them.

Hi Jcaputo!
What's "borging"? Sorry, guess I'm a bit dense today. Wasn't devshed owned by internet.com before you? I'm surprised they'd sell to an individual, but more power to you! Great move and great work. I do like the new design, although this quick reply looks kind of funny to me. It needs something (same for quick reply as it is implemented on most vb's that have it) ...anyway, just my opinion.. Would love to more about your background and why you bought the site. Any future plans (that aren't a secret of course heh heh)? |

Borging = old star trek term meaning hogging/assimilating - anyway Devshed was owned by www.infowest.com before me. If you have some specific ideas for the Quick reply im all ears!

The quick reply is a standard, canned vB hack. I like it, but I've also used it before, so I think I've grown accomstomed to seeing it...

Well I have used quite a few forums with the quick reply, find it very useful myself. I think if a forum doesnt have it most people hack it to include it.

I like quick reply. Just think the smiles should be added and another little cell on top of this box with a title like Quick Reply instead of on the left.

After you have used the forum for a while you get to know the codes for the smilies anyhow

I guess that's true. My issue was with esthetics though, not functionality. But it is nitpicking I'll admint.
