I can see something like this being done on some fairy or air show - just for the laughs - but this picture is fake in the sense that those stickers aren't on the plane. Though it would've been funny if someone actually did put all that stuff on one of the planes

Seems like a waste of good camouflage paint!
. Speaking of logos on planes, this reminds me of a funny, but true story.During the 60s, when Lockheed was developing the SR71 Blackbird plane, the Air Force insisted on Lockheed putting the airforce colors on it. So Lockheed spent a rather large sum of money trying to find a paint that wouldn't burn off at super hot temperatures and would retain its colors after a flight. The chief chemist apparently spent months researching different chemicals till he found something that would work. All this effort for an airplane that was designed to be stealthy, flew (and still flies) a lot higher than anything else where no one could see the logo, and was so secret that the air force refused to admit that it even existed. ![]() |

And another story about the Lockheed SR-71A...
During a test flight from the US to the UK, the blackbird overshot. And I don't mean it ended up at the M4 junc 20 when it should have been at junction 19... hell no, at 2,900mph it's quite easy to miss the UK... and Franse... and Belgium, they realsied in Holland and took part of Germany to do a U-turn. |

Well, what can you expect from a plane that requires you to get to mach 1 just to seal up the air leaks in it.

Yep, the Blackbird was officially retired around 1989 or so. There were plans of bringing it back for the Gulf War, but **** Cheney nixed the plans by saying "If we ever bring that damned aircraft back into service, we'll never get it out again." I saw one of them fly in 1995 or 1996 in an airshow at Edwards AFB though. I also believe NASA flew a few of them in the late 90s for high altitude research projects.
Considering that this aircraft was designed in the 60s with engineers using slide rules and ancient computing technology, it's amazing that this old aircraft still holds the official records for fastest and highest airplane ever! |
