DeMorgan's Theorem
Hey everyone, I wasn't sure where to post this since I am a new user but this seems to be the best place. I volunteered to type up a quiz for my teacher regarding DeMorgan's theorem. Problem is characater map doesnt have B bar (B') C bar (C') or D bar (D'). Does anyone know a font or way to create these? Overall it has to look like this: Ā

Normally I'd use ¬ to denote negation, but ! could be used too
¬A/\¬B==¬(A\/B) Another alternative is to print it in Courier, and use non breaking spaces with underscores in the line above, just over the characters you want to negate

Maybe it's just me, but it seems rather obvious that it depends upon the application you're using to produce the document. If you're using paper and pencil, you're home free. A typewriter takes a little work. A word or document processor with an equation editor would probably cater to your needs. Perhaps these considerations aren't important enough to mention.

Maybe it's just me, but satirical overkill seems appropriate when a questioner doesn't realize they should include relevant information in order to get a reasonable response. Smart Questions.

I thought the original question was pretty clear and concise as stated. Or maybe that's just me ... :-P

10 years ago i would have been able to help you : Amipro used to have a feature called "strikeover" which allows you to type two characters in the same position
so you could type a character, select it, go for Text/Special Effects / Strikeover and then type ALT 0175 to "overline" the character unfortunately none of the present word processors have such a feature as far as i can tell - although obviously ALT 0175 for the "overscore" character still works

I know for a fact that MS Word XP had such a feature, as I distinctly remember typing out some homework for an introductory Discrete Mathematics class I took in high school and set it to just put a bunch of underscores as over-text for the variable being negated.
I've got MS Office 2003 at work. Tomorrow when I get in, I'll play with it and see if I can find it again. ![]()

Got it. It's called "ruby text."
You need to enable Simplified Chinese Input support (from the "Microsoft Office Tools --> Microsoft Office Language Settings" in the start menu folder). Then select/highlight the text you want to add it to and use the "Asian Languages --> Phonetic Guide" option. Then if you want to negate the word, hit the "Group" option to make it all one selection (instead of per-letter), then just type in a bunch of underscores until it is one smooth unbroken line. ![]() (Screenshot attached.) Time to actually get some work done now. ^_^ |

I've given myself another grand oppurtunity to pimp the awesomeness of AbiWord. With AbiWord, you don't need to worry about munging with phonetic guides and underscores things: Just highlight the text you want and hit the "Overstrike" button in the formatting toolbar. Simplicity at its best...
