DevShed -- Changed my life.
I remember it well. I sat across the sticky table in my "company shirt" at a truck stop 50 miles from home. I had just started my own web business "making websites." This was a big sell for me. A client on a dedicated machine, and a big database. I had only heard of the power of PHP / MySQL. After the two hour meeting, I walked out after just selling a $3,000 project for "PHP and MySQL coding" on a dedicated Cobalt Cube. I soon realized that I hadn't the first clue how to program in PHP. So I began to learn, right here on DevShed.
My little web business did well, but I was fed up with clients who would never pay their invoices. Now I work for a local company doing PHP and MySQL. It's crazy that a job that might have required college degrees was learned on the Internet for free.
So I say thanks, DevShed. I'd like to meet the guy who got this whole thing started. If it weren't for DevShed and sites like it, I'd be flipping burgers at Burger King (which some days would be better than programming.)
