I am all for advertising on sites and I understand that DevShed has to earn some money just like everyone, but is there really any need for the stupid adverts?
A while back we had the stupid thing going on down the whole of the right hand side of the forum which was a real pain for those people who don`t have 17" plus monitors. And now we have this stupid block advertisement at the top of each page advertising the build your own hosting package. Half of the time it doesn`t even load properly and the rest of the time it makes a stupid huge gap at the top of the page and throws everything out of place. Like I said I am all for advertising but can`t DevShed atleast make sure it is in keeping with the site design? I mean they want to advertise on your site so you tell THEM the dimensions etc so that it suits DevShed. Little Moan Over ![]()

I would have to agree with this also. I see the benifit of advertising, but this has been a pain lately.

9 votes and 4 posts, I dont get - who is afraid of speaking up?
Not that it bothers me too much (19/21" 1280x960/1280x1024) but I voted for devhed to sort out the problem since 17" 800x600 is still about standard and it doesn't look too good there.

[envy] @ Al[/envy] I run 17" @ 1024/768, still suxs at that. The forum still doesn't start till almost half way down the page, I can imagine @ a lower resolution. |

I want to update to a 19" flat panel so bad it is almost killing me, until I see the price tag on one of those.
Would be nice to have a 21" flat screen though. ![]() |

And what shall I upgrade to? Prjector may be? heh. I know I'm lucky to have those screens, too bad can't get lcd. 19" flat aren't so expensice, you can pick out one for say US$270 and it'll be fairly decent one.

Al, so you have dual monitors? At work, I have dual 17 inch trinitrons with a Matrox g400 video card- works under linux and windows. The next computer I build at home will have the same setup.
Every web designer/programmer should have dual monitors. Code/HTML on one monitor, preview on the other. Doesn't get much better than that. Combine that with the multiple desktops of your favorite window manager and you've got more real estate than you know what to do with. |

My old vid supported dual and experience was the best (gforce2 mx), but vid didn't go too far with today's requirements, so with new box I got gforce4 ti 4200 64 3.5ns for $150 (its been a while) but it doesn't support twin view
Got cheap, I was shooting for 4400/4600 with 2 dvi's but then thought it was too expensive. It's cool though, with some tweaking now I top 10k in 3dmark2001, and whenever 3dlabs finishes it's p10 I'll downgrade this vid to my server box, get something with 2 dvi's it and work on twins again. |

Hero, looking over you post now I just want to get one thing straight - you didn't mean running linux and windows simultanuously on different monitors, did you?

No, one OS at a time. That'd be easy to do with a KVM switch though.
Sometimes I use VNC to open remote access to one my linux boxen when my dual-monitor machine is in windows, so that's almost the same. |
