Different Web Servers
There was a nice article about different web servers in a finnish computer magazine (www.tietokone.fi). They made a list of the best web servers on the market and compared them, weighting their abilities, weaknesses, and that sort of thing. These servers were:
- Zeus Web Server - Microsoft IIS - Roxen Web Server - Apache Web Server - Sun One Web Server - VisNetic Website Web Server I was rather surprised that, though they admitted that Apache was powerful about half of the world's web sites run on Apache, Apache still found itself rather low in ranking. The winner was Zeus, which I'm not surprised. I was wondering what other people thought of this, why is Apache so popular and still it ranks so low?

Well those first two are expensive.
Zues runs over $1,000. IIS is free but you have to buy a Microsoft OS to run it. I think part of the popularity of Apache was that it was free many years ago and gained a solid head start against those other web servers. It was also BSD and Linux based so there was no fees to run it.
