eCommerce enabled website

hi devshed community!

I'm new at the board (but 've been reading devshed since quite a time), have been using mostly PHP/mysql & other db's since years and am thinking to start a eCommerce related project (propably also using PHP)...

problem is that I've no idea on some topics, especially about enabling users/customers to pay per creditcard. while it's a clear must to provide some SSL-website for security issues, I don't know which steps to take about the creditcard-thing. which companies provide such services (esp. in europe/austria)? how much will it cost?

I don't wanna use a out-of-the-box e-shop like many providers offer, I really wanna do it myself...

thx, help is appreciated very much!

mike

Hello.

There are many companies out there who provide credit card processing, with flexibility and different amounts of customization.

The more custom it can be, the more expensive it is.

2checkout.com, Revecom and Worldpay all allow such features.

2checkout.com is the cheapest and fastest to set up, and Paypal can also be used for cc processing.

Both can be customized a bit, and both offer SSL page and verification on their own servers, so they take care of everything from the processing end. For example, you can set different transactions or prices for things or services you sell, set the price as monthly, yearly, any number of days/months/years or as a one time price, set up fee if you like, and when the user wants to pay, the company with which you signed up for cc processing will take their cc data.

Once they have verified the card and processed the transaction, the payment is either mailed to you via a check every 15 days, or deposited directly into your bank account, whether it's savings or checkings.

Hope this helps.
